A Word from the Author:

"Ten years ago if someone had suggested to me that I write a book. I would have been in a terrified state of disbelief. Today, however, it's another one of those big challenges that I find myself accepting as an adventure. This book is the culmination of years of learning, practicing, experimenting and always keeping an open mind about which direction my art is taking me. It's a road with lots of curves and very few rest stops. I will never learn it all, nor do I want to. Knowing there is so much more to learn keeps me thirsty for knowledge. My sincere hope is that this book will quench your thirst enough for you to be comfortable, but leave you thirsty enough to want more." — Sterling Edwards

An Excellent Book from an Excellent Teacher! Review by Deb

I took a 5-day workshop with Sterling, and not only is he a wonderful instructor who truly loves to teach, he was able to put his concepts into this wonderful book. I use it as a reminder when I wonder, "How would Sterling handle this problem?". It's a great book for your watercolor library.

This book has helped me to see different ways to bring my photographs to completion. Amazing lessons to paint light, and reminders to Always consider values. I will now do value studies before painting. I've learned to see how to make my watercolor paintings better!

Watercolor artist/Instructor Review by John Williams

Favorably impressed with Sterling Edwards paintings. I enjoyed painting 4 x 6 sketches of most of the paintings in his book. Lots of fun. Proves you can teach an old dog tricks.

A real instructional treasure. Review by Mary Straight

Wish I'd had this book when I began teaching years ago. I have already purchased two of these for new watercolorists. Clear, valuable lessons. Easy to follow and practice. Nice reference book, whether new or experienced painters.

Color Rich! Review by Lynn Giles

This is a wonderful book that is easy to learn from. Teaching how to use rich color and how to offset it against the opposite. I learned a great deal and the steps become natural as you practice them over and over with different subjects. Comes with a CD for learning not only with visual from the book but also from the CD. I learned so much from this book and when I go back to it, I see more that I didn't before. I love an artist that produces wonderful paintings but also knows how to teach. This is a rare combination. Thank you for a great tool for me to use over and over.Lynn Giles
