About the Author
Richard Schmid’s early studies began at the age of twelve in figure drawing, anatomy, and landscape painting. Richard studied at the Academy of Art in Chicago under William H. Mosby to learn classical techniques. Studying under Mosby, a graduate from the Belgian Royal Academy in Brussels has taught Richard conceptual and technical methods from the Flemish, Dutch, and Spanish masters and late 19th Century European and American painters. In 2000 he was given the John Singer Sargent Medal for Lifetime Achievement. He was presented with a gold medal from the Portrait Society of America in 2005. In addition, he was also given the prestigious gold medal at the annual Conference of The Portrait Society of America in May 2005. Richard received an honorary doctorate degree from the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, CT.
