I've studied with representational artists, plein air artists and impressionist artists. Believe me, the rules Johannes teaches apply to painting no matter what 'style' you are addressing and processing. If you can imagine Carlson's Guide to Landscape Painting come alive; you are watching Johannes demonstrate and explain the why, what and where of doing; along with loads of other valuable information about what works and what doesn't when you paint. I believe that if you have a sincere desire to improve or learn this material is of great value. I own his entire Painting Landscapes from Photographs as well as the individual painting episodes. They are the best bang for the buck I have ever experienced in art lessons and I've been in the learning curve for many years.

I have watched and re-watched this series and other Johannes' titles so many times and each time I find more wisdom from his tips and tricks that I can apply to my own art. All of his courses are in a relaxed manner full of the "golden nuggets" which he shares freely. There are many demos appealing to different mediums and every style will find something of value in this amazing series. From composition to the finished painting he touches on so much. Awesome training and a reasonable cost to boot.

I have recently bought all the Essentials videos from Johannes Vloothuis and I am very disappointed. The information about these courses are in my opinion misleading! The author teaches about everything but not in a realistic approach! So if you are somebody who paints in a realistic meaner these courses are not for you!
A side note. I did try to get my money back for the digital download of these courses but without success so far!
