- You love new takes on classic art techniques from landscapes to still lifes and the Art of the West.
Download this this digital issue of Southwest Art to read the same great articles and features you'll find in our print issue. In this issue we’ll introduce you to two artists taking a new approach to western themes. Landscape painter David Jonason developed his cubist-inspired painting techniques while doing graphics work in the television industry. Today he practices his fine art full time, bringing a contemporary look to the southwestern landscape. Jackson Hole, WY, ensnared the heart of then-architect-graduate September Vhay when she visited the resort town before settling into a career. Although she only meant to spend a ski season there, she never left. After several years of listening to its siren song—raven calls and hoof beats—while she minded her architectural career and painted on the side, Vhay finally took the leap into full-time fine art. Today the artist creates pared-down renderings of horses and local Wyoming wildlife.
Also in this issue, you’ll meet still-life artist Deborah Bays, who’s bringing new life to the classic still life, and Mark Gould, who pushes color and painting techniques on every landscape canvas he produces. And we peek inside Robert C. Jackson’s studio in Kennett Square, PA.
Take an art-show tour of the West with a lineup of the shows you won’t want to miss in Texas, New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado, and Oregon.
