Southwest Art February 2014

SKU# GROUP-SWA0214-T3384

You’ll love this issue of Southwest Art if:

  • You love landscape paintings and learning what inspires landscape and plein-air artists.
  • You love exploring new and emerging artists and eclectic artworks.
  • You love wildlife paintings, drawings, and sculpture.

In this issue of Southwest Art you meet two landscape artists who live in the mountain West, but come from different backgrounds and who express the landscape in very different ways. But there’s one thing they have in common, they both find divine inspiration in the natural world. Utah artist Josh Clare was born and raised south of Salt Lake City, studied illustration at Brigham Young University in Idaho and spent a single summer internship realizing that his work in life would not be confined to producing graphic arts that fulfilled someone else’s vision and that his creative work must be his own. Read more about the masters that influence his art and how he upcycles his own paintings. David Mensing traveled from his Iowa home to study architecture in California and then continued in that profession until a circuitous journey landed him in the upper West, where he met his wife and the painter that would become his artistic mentor and change the course of his career. Read more about these two artists and how a comic strip from the 1980s and ’90s connects them.

In this issue we also introduce you to Pauline Roche, whose paintings honor the creative process by exploring how art captivates, and Robert Louis Caldwell, whose love of nature infuses his bird and wildlife drawings and paintings.

Also in this issue we explore the work of 11 landscape and plein-air painters who capture everything from the California coastline to the southern Appalachians. And we take you on a tour of art shows and events from the Masters of the American West show in Los Angeles to the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston, SC.
