SKU# GROUP-SWA0114-U6992

You’ll love this issue of Southwest Art if:

  • You love the excitement and wonder of auctions
  • You love exploring emerging artists and perusing their best works
  • You love tenderly rendered images of the contemporary West

In this issue of Southwest Art we take a look at the western-art auction market. Hear what the experts have to say about what’s hot on the block right now, what’s surging or lagging, and where the best buys are to be found. You’ll also find a calendar of important auctions for 2014.

In the January 2014 issue, we introduce you to Mary Ross Buchholz and David Grossmann, two dramatically different, talented artists. Buchholz, who hails from West Texas, renders charcoal and graphite images of ranch life. Her portraits provide an intimate look at the people who keep alive a tradition that is quickly disappearing from the American landscape. Read more about her life on land that has been held in her family for generations and the people and animals that inform her award-winning art. Young artist David Grossmann has been turning heads across the West with his minimalist landscape oil paintings. As a child, Grossmann preferred the company of his sketchbook to people and, to this day, finds solace in solitude. Read more about the art class that changed the course of his artistic path and the landscapes that inspire his spare, ethereal paintings.

Each year, our sister publication The Artist’s Magazine conducts a world-wide art competition. This year the magazine received over 6,000 entries to consider. From those entries, judges chose 30 winners and 300 finalists. In this issue we introduce you to a sampling of the many talented artists whose works were among the finalists. Don’t miss this impressive collection of landscapes, wildlife paintings, still lifes, and figurative works in oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, and encaustic.

Each month, Southwest Art brings you previews of western art shows you don’t want to miss. This month we cover shows from Denver to Scottsdale to Los Angeles.
