You'll love this issue of Southwest Art if:
  • You love the fresh, spontaneous look of plein-air landscape painting.

  • You love discovering the newest talent and rising stars in representational art.

  • You love exploring the diverse show offerings at the best galleries and museums around the West.

  • In the June 2014 issue of Southwest Art you'll meet plein-air artists Camille Przewodek and Stacey Peterson. When California based fine-art illustrator Przewodek realized the digital revolution had rendered her work superfluous, she got up from her desk and said she didn't want to do that anymore. The next day, she set up her easel on the street in Petaluma's historic downtown and began to rebuild her career as a plein-air colorist. Her story and her unique approach to depicting the landscape are in this issue of Southwest Art.

Colorado native Stacey Peterson always enjoyed art, but when it came to choosing a career, she very practically followed her equally efficient analytical tendencies to pursue a career in engineering. Her short career in that field took her from Denver to Houston and back to Colorado where she realized, once and for all, her love was fine art. Read more about her purpose-driven fine-art journey in the June issue.

Gladys Roldan-de-Moras spent half a dozen years denying her wish to become an artist as she studied medicine in preparation for a carreer as a surgeon. But as life set distractions-a move from her home in Mexico to the United States and the birth of her first child-in her path, Roldan-de-Moras finally realized all she really wanted to do was paint. Today the artist is known for works depicting Mexican rodeos and ezcaramuzas as well as opera-inspired still lifes.

Also in the June issue, we excerpt Timothy J. Standring's essay about the Denver Art Museum's exhibit Daniel Sprick's Fictions: Recent Work.

Don't miss the in-depth previews of the West's best art-show offerings from Oklahoma City to Calgary, Canada, and from San Francisco to Bennington, VT.
