Southwest Art September 2013

SKU# GROUP-SWA0913-U6988

You’ll love this issue of Southwest Art if:

  • You’re looking to discover emerging artists with extraordinary talent.
  • You harbor a fondness for boat, marina, and shipyard art.
  • You want to know where to find galleries that showcase work by your favorite artists.

The September issue of Southwest Art is one of our most-anticipated issues each year as we showcase the artwork and aspirations of 21 extraordinary artists under the age of 31. This year we introduce new artists from across the United States, from the young Texas artist Barry Carter, who has just finished his first year of college, majoring in art, to California artist David Bilmes who grew up immersed in the world of his Soviet-trained father’s art atelier. Learn more about what inspires and terrifies these two artists, as well as the 19 others in our “21 Under 31” feature.

We’ll also introduce you to artist Tom Perkinson, who for more than 40 years has been distilling the New Mexico landscape through his imagination and re-creating it in oil paintings and watercolor works that are enhanced with applications of pastel. We also check in again with wildlife bronze sculptor and sometime painter Tim Shinabarger, who continues his ongoing quest to learn more about his subject matter and improve his technical artistic abilities.

Don’t miss our big list of art show previews from around the West, including Beverly Hills, CA; Cody and Jackson, WY; Grand Canyon National Park, AZ; and Taos and Santa Fe; NM.

Other columns in the September 2013 issue of Southwest Art include:
From the Editor: Thoughts on the next generation of artists
