Valuable Insights on Technique and Process Review by Meryl

I really enjoyed this video on Mary Whyte. I own her other video on Mastering Watercolor Portraiture which provides a lot of detail on painting and brush technique. This is an excellent complement to that video, by including insights into Mary's painting process and artistic approach.

I found it very useful to hear her discuss her approach to planning a scene, sketching thumbnail sketches, working with a model, and other details of her artistic life that take this out of the "pure technique" and put it in the realm of inspiration. Thanks, Mary, for sharing your painting life.

Mary Whyte's teaching shimmers Review by Ross

I have admired Mary Whyte's work for some time so when the opportunity to purchase this video download 'Watercolor Portraits of the South with Mary Whyte' at such an excellent price, I could not walk away. I am not a water-colorist but I love learning about other artists' processes. I was not disappointed. I was inspired. Water color is too often thought of as the poor relation of oil. Mary Whyte demonstrates how wrong-headed such a view is. With practical, clear teaching she shares her methodology and the motivating inspiration - the soul of her work in an inspiring manner. Excellent resource on the water color medium by a great artist.

Such a great lady, fantastic in her explanations, the video is great not to assist in watercolor painting only, but in other techniques can be of a great assistance, too. I didn't move myself for more then two hours.
Thank you

Wow, fantastic in all ways! Review by Carole

This video is loaded with excellent contextual instruction in watercolor painting but it goes beyond that with delightful glimpses of Mary Whyte's studio, friendships and working relationships with her models, and more. Now I know why Mary's workshops are so popular! She is a fantastically talented, well-spoken artist who is also blessed with gracefulness and humility. She deserves utmost appreciation for her beautiful paintings but is worthy of admiration for much more than just her artistic talent. I would rate this 100 stars if I is my new favorite among the dozens of watercolor books and videos that I own. Definitely a video that all watercolor artists will find helpful and inspiring!
